What this covers
This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies carveresq.com uses, and how you can control them. You can change your preference at any time using the “Cookie Preferences” link in the site footer, which reopens the same banner you saw on your first visit.
Categories in use
“Strictly necessary” items keep the site working: two authentication cookies described below, and two local-storage entries that remember your dark/light mode choice and your cookie preference itself. These are always on, because the site cannot function correctly without them, and consent is not required for them under applicable law.
“Functional” and “analytics” cookies are off by default. If analytics are turned on in the future, to understand in the aggregate which pages are useful and never to build an advertising profile of you, that category will appear in the banner with its own toggle and will stay off until you turn it on.
What's actually set
- cesq_portal and cesq_desk: authentication cookies, set only if you log into the password-protected client portal or associate room. Not set on an ordinary visit to the site.
- Theme preference and cookie-preference record: local storage, not cookies, set on every visit to remember your dark/light mode choice and your consent choice.
- Arcade control-layout preference and session-scoped game progress: local and session storage, covered below.
Local storage used by the Arcade
The free games embedded on this site (the “Arcade”) use your browser’s local and session storage, not cookies, to remember a control-layout preference and your progress through the game list for the current visit. Nothing stored is a cookie, nothing identifies you, and session-scoped data clears when you close the tab. This falls under the same “strictly necessary to function” category above, not the functional/analytics category, which remains off by default.
What is not done
Carver Esq. does not use cookies for third-party advertising and does not sell or share information collected via cookies with data brokers or ad networks.
Your controls
- The cookie banner shown on your first visit lets you accept all, reject non-essential cookies, or open detailed settings.
- The “Cookie Preferences” link in the footer reopens your settings at any time.
- Your browser’s own settings can block or delete cookies independently of anything on this site.
- This site detects the Global Privacy Control browser signal. If your browser sends it, non-essential cookies are recorded as declined and you are not shown the banner at all. An explicit choice you make yourself takes precedence over the signal, so you can still use the footer link to set a different preference.

This page will be updated if the categories of cookies in use change.
