The commitment
Carver Esq. is committed to making carveresq.com usable by everyone, including people who use assistive technology. The site targets WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance throughout, and applies AAA guidance further where feasible.
Measures to support accessibility
Carver Esq. takes the following measures, adapted from the Web Accessibility Initiative’s (WAI) own framework for organizational accessibility commitments, to ensure the accessibility of carveresq.com:
- Include accessibility as a requirement for all web content. Content must meet WCAG 2.1 AA, and should meet AAA as feasible.
- Assign clear accessibility goals and responsibilities.
- Ensure content authors have accessibility knowledge and skills.
- Include accessibility as part of the practice’s mission.
- Include accessibility throughout internal policies.
- Usability test with participants with disabilities.
What this looks like on this site, specifically
- Every animation on the site respects your operating system’s “reduce motion” setting — turning it on leaves every section fully visible and readable, with nothing hidden and nothing mid-transition.
- The intake wizard traps keyboard focus correctly inside its dialog, restores focus to where you were when you close it, and can be closed with the Escape key.
- Colour is never the only signal of state — for example, a checked item in the readiness checklist is also struck through, not just recoloured.
- Text contrast is checked against WCAG AA in both light and dark mode; the single accent colour was chosen specifically because it clears AA in both.
- Progress through the multi-step intake form is announced to screen readers via a proper progress-bar role, not conveyed only by a visual bar.
