Civil litigation / notice

The full notice

You file this yourself, pro per

Pro per means representing yourself, with no lawyer, which is what this tool is for and the only thing it is for. This site doesn't file anything and doesn't serve anyone. You sign it, you take it to the court, you arrange for it to be handed over. We put the pieces in one place and tell you what each step needs.

This isn't legal advice

No attorney reads what you type or checks what comes out. Nothing here tells you whether you have a case, what you should do, or how it will end.

Nothing you type here is privileged

Talking to a lawyer is confidential. Typing into a form is not. There's no attorney-client relationship, and nothing you write here is protected.

Court fees and server fees never go through this site

The court's fee goes to the court. A process server's fee goes to the server, at a price you agree with them. Check every fee, form and deadline against the court's own page before you file. We show you where each one came from and when we checked it.

In full

  • This is a document-assembly tool. It is not legal advice, and it does not tell you whether you have a case.
  • Using it does not retain any attorney and creates no attorney-client relationship.
  • Nothing you type here is a confidential communication to a lawyer, and none of it is protected by the attorney-client privilege.
  • No attorney reads your answers or reviews what this produces, unless you separately hire the attorney under a signed engagement letter.
  • Nothing here predicts or assesses the outcome of your case.
  • Court fees, forms and deadlines change. Verify every one against the court's own source before you file.

What this tool does, precisely

It assembles a civil complaint out of answers you type, in the format your court expects. It tells you which forms that court requires, what the filing fee is and which rule sets it, how long you have to serve the papers and which rule says so, and where to take everything.

It covers three courts: the Los Angeles, San Francisco and Alameda County Superior Courts. You file pro per, meaning you represent yourself with no lawyer, and that is the only thing this tool is for.

It does not file anything for you. California’s electronic filing runs through providers where the account has to be in your own name, so no website can do it on your behalf.

It does not serve anyone. It will show you the rule about who is allowed to hand the papers over and what proof the court wants back. You engage a server yourself; we never contact them, never send them your documents, and never handle the money.

It does not tell you whether you will win, and it does not publish anything. Nothing you type is listed anywhere, shown to anyone, or put on any public page. Your draft link is the only way back to it, and nobody can recover it for you if you lose it.

It charges nothing. The court’s fee goes to the court and a process server’s fee goes to the server, at a price you agree with them. Neither passes through this site.

The attorney’s package is a separate thing

The page above this one also offers a flat-fee package in which the attorney drafts the complaint, files it and makes the first appearance. That is the practice of law and it works the way any engagement does: a conflicts check first, then a signed engagement letter, then an attorney who is responsible for the work.

This builder is none of that. Using it retains nobody, and no attorney reads your answers or reviews what comes out. The only way that changes is if you separately hire the attorney under a signed engagement letter — not by using this tool, and not by asking a question through it.

Where the information comes from

Every form, fee and deadline cites the court, statute or rule it came from and the date it was last checked. Where a figure comes from a source we could not fetch a copy of, the entry says so, and says to confirm it with the clerk. Court fees, forms and deadlines change; verify every one against the court’s own page before you file.
